Hello friend,
Did you know May is Water Safety Month? As the days get warmer and pools start calling, it’s the perfect moment to check in on your family’s water safety habits.
I’ve seen firsthand how a few simple steps can make a world of difference and I want to help you keep swimming fun and safe all summer
long.
5 Simple Ways to Keep Your Family Safe Around Water
- Always assign a Water Watcher. Make sure there’s a responsible adult focused on supervising swimmers; no phones, no distractions. Even strong swimmers need eyes on them at all times.
- Teach kids to respect the water. Talk about why rules like “no running on the pool deck” and “never swim alone” matter. Kids listen more when they understand the reasons
behind the rules.
- Practice safe entries and exits. Show your child how to get in and out of the water safely. It’s a small thing, but it can prevent slips and falls.
- Keep rescue equipment nearby. A life ring, reaching pole, or even a pool noodle can be a lifesaver in an emergency. Make sure everyone knows where these are kept.
- Refresh swim skills every year. Skills can get rusty, especially after a long winter. If your
child hasn’t been in lessons for a while, consider a refresher, or join my Online Swim Academy for step-by-step guidance and support.
Wishing you a safe and splash-filled start to the season!
❤️ Tessa
