Hello friend,
As parents, we must ensure our children are safe and secure in the swimming pool. But it's also essential to help them develop
their independence and confidence in the water.
Here are some tips for encouraging independence in your child when swimming with them:
- Start with shallow water - If your
child is starting out, have them practice in shallow water, where they can stand up and touch the bottom. It will give them a sense of security as they learn how to move around in the water.
- Stay within arms reach - Give your
child space to explore independently. Let them experiment in the shallow end while you stay within arms reach, in case they need to grab onto you; wear a t-shirt for this specific purpose. They may also require your assistance, so arms-reach distance is optimal.
- Make safety a priority - It's crucial to prioritize safety in swimming pools. Be sure to set a rule that your child must always wait for your permission before they enter any swimming pool or body of water.
