This weekend, we're all going to be hit with a wave of summer fun: pool parties, beach days, and more. We know how much you love these activities, but it's important to keep safety in mind.
The Center for Disease Control reports a spike in drowning deaths during the July 4th weekend each year. The CDC recommends taking these precautions when swimming:
Never swim alone
Learn basic swimming and water safety skills
Build fences that fully enclose pools
Supervise closely. Assign a water watcher who knows how to swim
Have children wear a life jacket if they are not strong swimmers
Know the risks of natural waters
Learn CPR
Never swim under the influence of drugs or alcohol
Use the buddy system
Take additional precautions for medical conditions
Consider the effects of medications
Don't hyperventilate or hold your breath for a long time
Stay safe, and I hope you enjoy your long weekend!
